This mid-century modernist house, with raked ceilings and exposed rafters, required a better connection to the rear garden. The parents wanted a retreat. A small addition picks up on elements of the existing house and reinterprets them with contemporary materials. The once gloomy dining area is now a focal point of the design and looks through the new living space out into the garden.
