Sitting within a quiet col-de-sac in Canberra's inner north is Blue Sky House. Optimising the northern aspect, this addition allows light to come into the newly added living and master bedroom spaces, which previously was not achievable. By flipping the orientation of the simple truss, this addition is striking in both form and design from exterior to interior; with high raked ceilings casting the eye to the sky above. Taking inspiration on colours found on the cottage, the blue acts as a recessive quality for the new form, ensuring it is subtly tucked behind the original home. Keeping this same tone flowing into the interior, allows for a striking yet cohesive space throughout both old and new. Through simple planning and detailing, this design has revitalised the existing home while standing in unique contrast and allowing a better relationship of spaces, light and family living.
